Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has approved the allocation of candidates to various occupational groups in the civil service on the basis of CSS 2008 results as per Federal Public Service Commission’s recommendation.

For the first time in history of civil service, Balochistan has been allocated 28 seats, while previously only single digit quota for Balochistan was earmarked.

The batch of 357 candidates recommended by the FPSC will be the largest batch ever appointed by the Government, whose occupational group-wise distribution is 48 Pakistan Audit & Accounts Service 36, for Commerce 32, Customs & Excise,District Management Group 38, Foreign Service of Pakistan 25
Income Tax Group 39, Information Group 41 , Military Lands & Cantonment 3, Office Management Group 34, Police Service of Pakistan 35, Postal Group 13, and Railways Group 13.

In order to encourage participation of women in the civil service, female candidates have been given 10% quota over and above merit seats. In all, 57 women have been selected that includes 33 on merit and 24 on women quota representing 16% of total successful candidates.

This year, a record number of 445 vacancies in various occupational groups were conveyed to the FPSC to enable allocation of significant number of seats to provinces like Balochistan and Sindh. A total of 4244 candidates appeared while 685 qualified the examination.

The Commission has made allocation against 357 vacancies whereas allocation against 88 vacancies (77 province-based open merit and 11 reserved for women quotas) could not be made due to non availability of suitable candidates.

However, the un-filled vacancies falling against the quota of Sindh, Balochistan and AJ&K will be carried forward to the next CSS Competitive Examination 2009 to ensure that candidates from all provinces are given their full quota.

This gesture of the Prime Minister would go a long way in improving good governance in the country and shall motivate the young graduates to come forward and participate in the civil service with zeal and
spirit, which has also shown the commitment of the present government’s policy to provide jobs in public sector strictly on merit keeping in view the provincial/regional quotas, as well as, to ensure representation of women, as per their enhanced prescribe quota.
